Haunted Hot-Spots of Idaho

Every state, almost every area has a haunted location, which of course includes Idaho as this state is pretty full of them. If you live in Idaho or are planning a trip, maybe add these to your visit or to-do list!

Old Idaho State Penitentiary in Boise

Brief History

The Old Idaho State Penitentiary is a great way to start off our list! It was a functioning prison from 1872-1973 with several buildings, surrounded by a seventeen-foot high sandstone wall. Convicts assisted in the construction of the wall by gathering the stone from nearby ridges and they helped with later constructions. Over the years of operation, the prison received more than thirteen thousand prisoners, two infamous inmates being Harry Orchard and Lyda Southard. Today, the prison is operated by the Idaho State Historical Society.

Paranormal Activity

Most penitentiaries I’ve heard about, have had or has some type of strange activity, due to the negativity they’ve housed, especially this one. Near the former gallows and solitary confinement cells, visitors report hearing strange sounds and voices and they experience feelings of doom or terror.

Ammon Park in Pocatello

Park Activities

Ammons park provides a wonderful place for families and friends to get together in a natural setting. BBQ, picnic tables, a portable restroom, and a place to walk your pet makes a day at the park a constant option.

Paranormal Activity

But when the moon overlooks these ten acres, paranormal activity surfaces. Park visitors report seeing the apparition of a blue girl who roams around there at night, especially near the swings. No one knows who this girl is or if she was involved in some type of accident there. Maybe it’s not even a girl at all…

Canyon Hill Cemetery in Caldwell

Canyon Hill is a Cemetery from the early 1800s. Residing here are victims of murder, suicide, and many others that met unfortunate and sad fates.

Hauntings

This cemetery is known for a very specific entity…The ‘Midnight Jogger.’ She is said to roam around the cemetery without legs, sit on a bench, and come up to your car window and tap on it – all done after dark, late at night. I appreciate a haunted cemetery as much as the next guy but I don’t think I’ll be adding this one to my travel plans…
