Ghosts and spirits are known to effectively communicate in many different ways but there is one way that seems pretty far fetched when it comes to paranormal interaction. I’m talking about automatic writing.
What is Automatic Writing?
It is where you participate in letting a ghost/spirit control your arm and hand as you hold a pen or other writing utensil and remain completely still, allowing them access to write whatever they desire. Basically you’re not consciously doing anything and the words come from a spiritual or subconscious source. Keep in mind that automatic writing is not the same thing as free writing, whereas with free writing, you are in complete control of yourself.
History of Automatic Writing
An early account of when this practice was used, was in the 16th century Enochian language as commanded to John Dee and Edward Kelly by Enochian angels. This language is known to be extremely detailed and very complex with grammar and rules. Robert Desnos, a Surrealist poet, claimed to be very gifted when it came to automatic writing.

In recent years, an account of automatic writing was brought to attention by Wendy Hart (England) claimed she wrote about a sea captain named Nicolas Moore, who died in 1642.
Skepticism of Automatic Writing
As with all things paranormal, there are those who try to debunk the phenomena. Scientists and skeptics claim that automatic writing is due to the ideomotor effect, which is when a person makes a move unconsciously but it is in fact their doing and is it not the doing of any spirit. In 1927, psychiatrist Harold Dearden stated that automatic writing was simply the psychological method of ‘tapping’ into one’s own subconscious.
What do you guys think? Do you think automatic writing is indeed paranormal or something that we subconsciously control? Leave me a comment to let me know, also if you have experimented with automatic writing, let me know how that went too!
